Bar Soba
Last but not least brings me to my favourite Pan-Asian spot
with potentially one of the best student deals around. Bar Soba has three
locations in Glasgow, one in Edinburgh, and one in Leeds, making it a firm
fixture of the city’s student food scene. It offers a range of Thai, Malaysian,
Chinese, Indian and Japanese street food with a modern twist. Inspired by the
street vendors of South East Asia, the menu is diverse and vibrant with plenty
options for vegetarians and gluten free diets. They also have an extensive cocktail
menu which makes Soba a great choice for just drinks too.
Onto the student deal, probably what makes it such an
obvious choice for my friends and I’s recent post-library eats. Bar Soba offers
all students with legitimate student ID 2-for-1 main courses from
Monday-Thursday when you buy any drink. What’s more is that they also offer one
of their signature cocktails for half price during the week, which means
something stronger than just noodles to cure the post-library sesh blues.
Our most recent visit saw my three friends and I enjoy chicken
Pad Thai, Malaysian Nasi Goreng, and Japanese Teryaki Beef Noodles*, all
finished off with £3.50 apple and ginger mojitos. With the bill coming to only
£9.00 each, it’s hard to find a better deal which allows you a cheeky tipple on
a school night too.
Bar Soba can be found in the trendy Merchant square, dark
and mysterious Mitchell Lane and on Byres Road for all you West End socialites.
*N.B. my friend who ate the beef teriyaki complained of and
an upset stomach for the rest of the night and I feel I’d be doing her an
injustice by not giving that some air time. However, she also committed carnivore
blasphemy by making them butcher her beef and serve it well-done, so you can
interpret that as you wish…
- Love you really
Cara, get well soon x x x
